Divorce Discernment Counseling in Onalaska

Helping you and your partner identify problems areas and decide whether you are willing to work on desired changes or separate. Counseling to help you get unstuck.

On the brink? Thinking about divorce for years on end without telling your partner how you feel is a lonely experience. It’s not fair to you and will leave your partner feeling blindsided if and when you say something.

You may be wrestling with life changing decisions about divorce and you aren’t sure what is right for you and your family. Or your partner started using the d-word and you are totally freaking out.

Your partner may be leaning out of the marriage while you are leaning in. You might not agree about whether or not to try Couples Counseling.

Divorce Discernment Counseling is not Marriage Counseling. It is a different way to work with couples with mixed agendas.

It’s brief

Five sessions tops. After each of the five sessions you decide whether to schedule the next, or stop. The goal is more clarity and understanding for you both. We won’t be working on solving your problems, but instead helping you get clear about what they are and what is next.

Unlike Marriage Counseling, I spend most of the time with each of you individually to help you get clearer on how you got here, agreement about what what the problems are, and what might be next for you.

Most couples come out of Divorce Discernment Counseling deciding one of two things;  divorce, or to give it six months of fully involved commitment to see if it’s possible to create the strong relationship you both want and need.

Whether you took the lead in pursuing divorce, or you are reeling after learning your partner wants to separate, this is the time to have some real conversations.  it may be a time of devastation, anger and defensiveness. One of you may be making huge changes only to be met with disinterest from the other. Both of you are tired and in pain.
